1966 Ampeg SB-12 Portaflex

I got this amp from Tony Moore on the Dudepit. He said that his tech had added a load resistor to the direct out jack so that it could be used without the speaker being connected. When I got it, I opened it up to see how that was done. There are many more mods that Tony didn't know about or at least didn't mention. The power tubes are now 6V6 instead of the oddball 7868's. All of the original caps and resistors have been replaced with high quality new ones. It sounds great. Thanks Tony!

It has new JJ tubes in it. JJ 6V6's are the only tubes that will handle the high voltage of the Super Reverb transformer that was substituted for the original when the mod to 6V6 was done. The resulting circuit is very close to a 50's Fender Deluxe, with about a 25 watt output instead of 22 watts. It's a great bass amp, and it is a killer guitar and harp amp. I also have a custom made vinyl cover for it.
The speaker is an Eminence Alpha. 1/4" jacks have been added to the back of the amp and cabinet. With the added load resistor, the amp can be operated without the speaker connected, or another speaker can be hooked up. There is a preamp output jack as well.

I recently recovered it, the first picture is what it looks like now.
